What stays on your device
Your saved source files, transcripts, compiled knowledge and local questions remain on your iPhone. LocalBrain has no account system or cloud sync. You control the material you add and when you ask about it.
What offline means in practice
Download the local model first, over a connection you choose. After the required models are downloaded, transcription, source highlights, saved knowledge and local AI questions work without a network. Importing a web page and choosing web search still need a connection; these are explicit actions.
Private transcription has a clear boundary
Transcription uses WhisperKit small on your iPhone. Download the required transcription and local language models before working offline. Your saved audio and completed transcript remain available if processing fails; they are not sent to a cloud transcription service. Recognition can make mistakes, so replay important passages to check them.
Start with something useful
Record in LocalBrain or share an audio file into its dedicated Recordings / Transcript tab. Start transcription when you are ready, then listen while editing and save your changes. The current playback paragraph is highlighted. Audio, transcripts and source highlights stay in the recordings workspace; choose Add to knowledge base only for material you want to use in knowledge-based chat. Shared web links continue to open in chat previews.
