Record in LocalBrain, import a local audio or video file, or share an audio file from Voice Memos or Files. Shared audio opens the dedicated Recordings / Transcript tab. The file is saved first; you choose when to start transcription. Receiving a file does not create a chat conversation or start background transcription.
Listen while you edit
On-device transcription produces timestamped text. Replay the recording while editing, then explicitly save your changes; the original transcript is preserved. The current playback paragraph is highlighted. Scrolling or editing pauses automatic following, and Return to playback position resumes it. AI selects source passages as highlights, with timestamps you can replay. These are excerpts from the transcript, so recognition mistakes still need checking.

Audio, completed transcripts, saved edits and source highlights stay in the local recordings workspace. After reviewing them, explicitly choose Add to knowledge base to make a source available for knowledge-based questions. The recording stays in its workspace. Later transcript edits do not silently replace the saved knowledge source; updating that source requires your confirmation. No calendar events, reminders or tasks are created automatically.
Keep control when processing pauses
Your source stays saved when transcription or highlight generation fails. Completed transcript segments are saved as checkpoints. Retry the incomplete step; a completed transcript remains available for listening and editing if highlights fail. Free transcription supports recordings up to 10 minutes per file; longer recordings require active Pro, and device limits still apply. Download the required transcription and local language models before working offline.
